Margaret Holland devoted her life to her students. After graduating from James Madison University, Ms. Holland served military families by working as both a Spanish and English teacher in Germany and Okinawa. Her combination of teaching expertise and fondness for students motivated her to become a Guidance Counselor at Lejeune High School. Ms. Holland spent most of her career at Lejeune, making a difference in the lives of countless students who walked the halls of LHS. Now and in the future, Ms. Holland's legacy will live on through her scholarship so that all students who walk these halls have an equal opportunity to be touched by her life. Ms. Holland was an inspiration to students, many of whom remained in contact with her long after their graduation. Her exceptional love for incoming freshman put her in the ideal place to make a difference in the lives of students as they began their high school careers. Stories of students who once considered school to be a burden, finding a new love and appreciation for school, are often told as fond memories of Ms. Holland. To her co-workers, Margaret was a quiet, private individual who had a reputation for being well-dressed and always having a neat appearance. Margaret be believed that becoming a member of a school faculty was like becoming a member of a family. The 30+ years Margaret spent at LHS undoubtedly generated life-long relationships and a family tree consisting of faculty, staff, administration, and former students. Even after her retirement, Margaret continued to serve her LHS family by volunteering weekly at the school. Because Ms. Holland enjoyed such a reserved, unassuming life, few people knew about her amazing contributions to many causes. Margaret's concern for her fellow man and desire to help others is evident in her philanthropy. Through her estate, she left monetary donations to more than ten different charities including the Ronald McDonald House, Special Olympics of North Carolina, and Habitat for Humanity. Her donations will not only make a difference in the lives of those connected with these organizations but will also assist in the advancement of medical research and so much more. It was Ms. Holland's desire to leave a legacy that would ensure her greatest contribution would benefit the students at the school she considered family - Lejeune High School. She established the Margaret Holland Scholarship Fund, yielding up to $45k per year, to give LHS seniors an opportunity for a life changing experience. Her desire was to pave the way for deserving students, who may not be able to afford college, the means to do so. She believed that all students who want to go to college deserve a fair chance, thereby warranting her help.
