Marching Band / Flag Corps
The only requirement is knowledge of a musical instrument. No previous knowledge of marching necessary. Come prepared to work, have fun, and express your LHS spirit! Drill rehearsals are held after school one evening per week.
The Lejeune High School Marching Devil Pups is an extracurricular activity where high school students perform up to four, maybe even five song selections at
competitions and during the home football games at halftime. However, this
season the band performed four songs. I want You Back by the Jackson 5, Respect
by Aretha Franklin, Papa was a Rolling Stone by The Temptations, and they
conclude their show with Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and
Tammi Terell.
To join, students had to show up during band camp about two weeks prior to
school starting or talk to Band Director Mr. Tyson. “Experience is preferred and
definitely helps, but it isn't necessary,” said the freshman percussion section
leader, Eli G.
Senior Drill Master Ace said, “Being a marching devil pup is like a chaotic,
dysfunctional family that I wouldn’t trade for the world.” The Marching Band
practiced Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 3-5pm and sometimes on
Tuesdays and Fridays as needed.
This year they had a total of four competitions, two parades, and one showcase
prior to competitions. On October 26, they performed under “High Step/Show
band” in the evening for the first time ever and also under their usual 1-A section
in the afternoon at Greene Central High School. The band brought home a total of
four trophies. Their last competition of the season, on November 2, they brought
home many trophies and ended the season outstandingly. They received 1st place
drum major, 1st place color guard, 2nd place marching, 2nd place music, 2nd
place overall, and the spirit award among 12+ bands!
In the end, the LHS marching band is a great extracurricular activity and if
joining next year has ever crossed a students mind, they should definitely join!
